About Fairfield NJ
Fairfield is a township located in the northwestern part of Essex County, NJ. As of the 2010 census, it has an approximate population of 7,466 residents. What is now Fairfield was founded in 1798 as Caldwell Township after the Rev. James Caldwell. Its name was changed to Fairfield in 1964 as a borough and was later named a township in 1978. Fairfield is bordered by the Essex County municipalities of North Caldwell and West Caldwell. It also borders East Hanover Township, Lincoln Park, and Montville in Morris County, and Little Falls and Wayne in Passaic County.
