About Holmdel NJ

Holmdel is a township in Monmouth County, NJ. It has an approximate population of 16,662 residents according to a 2018 census. Holmdel Township was formed in 1857 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. Although the origin of the name Holmdel is unclear, some suggest it is named after the Holmes family, who were early settlers in the area. Others think it comes from the Dutch language words holm and del, meaning “pleasant valley”.
