About Plainfield NJ
Plainfield is a city in Union County, NJ with an approximate population of 54,670 residents. Plainfield has been nicknamed “The Queen City”. It was originally formed as Plainfield Township in 1847 when it was still part of Essex County. In 1857 it became part of the newly formed Union County, and in 1869 it was incorporated as a city by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. In 1878 Plainfield Township was dissolved and parts of it became Plainfield city. The name “Plainfield” may be after the name of a local estate or from its scenic location.
